Standard IX - Demonstrates Implementation of TechnologyI'm a tech geek. I've said it often throughout this portfolio, but it's true. I have a Cingular 8125 PDA phone and I know how to use it. I've used Photoshop to design all of the graphics in this portfolio and also graphics I've done for jobs. I use my computer every single day. I have a TiVo. I love SmartBoards. I'm a big fan of networked computers in schools. I love wireless Internet. My family has a Wii and 3 DSs because we love to play games together. There is no end to my love of technology. I constantly strive to find new technology and learn about it. This standard covers technology. The evidence will too.
Proof Provided Elsewhere - Quite a few items that could be considered proof for this standard have been discussed and given elsewhere. Direct links are listed here:
Activboard - If you look at the picture above, you'll notice a whiteboard. That's actually an Activboard. It's not as advanced as a SmartBoard, but it is the technology I've used throughout the year to present my lessons to the students. The picture to the left is from Standard III, but it shows me using the Activboard to present a lesson to the students.
Dell - Dell seems to be getting quite popular with schools. Mason County High School has their computers all over the place. The library has them and even the teachers have them. The picture to the right is of the laptop that Ms. McAbee has in her classroom. I have found out that the laptops are being set up to be fully dockable, meaning that they can plug them in at work to gain access to the network and such, but then they can unplug them and take them home to do school work on them. I love the idea. Can't wait to get one.
ReflectionI am a tech geek. I love technology and will always try to keep up with new tech (when it becomes affordable of course). I plan on designing website software for my own classroom that will make my job as a teacher much easier and the student's job of being a student much easier. I would hope for computers in the classroom, but considering I'm an English teacher, I don't see that being easy. I have hopes though. If it was up to me, every student would have a computer they could take with them to home or school. I'm a huge fan of technology that helps students who wouldn't normally be able to do some things otherwise. There's Text-to-Speech software that reads for them, especially the blind students. There's accessability options in most operating systems (Windows XP) today (As I mentioned in Standard III under Adaptive Technology). It's just great the things we've accomplished as a society tech wise. Now if only we could curb our reliance on oil. "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic."-Arthur C. Clarke |
